Best For:
Thin lawns, bare patches, outdated grass varieties, anyone committed to achieving the best possible lawn
If your Roca lawn hasn’t received new seed in over a decade, we recommend aeration and overseeding for 3-4 consecutive years to completely transform grass genetics. Year one introduces modern cultivars and begins filling thin areas. Year two continues genetic replacement and significantly improves density. Year three achieves near-complete conversion to superior grass varieties. Year four perfects density and uniformity. This multi-year approach progressively replaces outdated or inferior grass genetics with modern Turf Type Tall Fescue that dramatically outperforms older varieties in disease resistance, drought tolerance, and appearance.
Nebraska's Most Trusted Lawn Care Service
Roca’s growing community south of Lincoln features properties where lawn quality matters to homeowners. Our aeration services address the fundamental soil health issues that determine whether lawns merely survive or truly thrive in Nebraska’s challenging climate.

Our professional stand-on aerators pull plugs 3-4 inches deep into the soil—double the 1-2 inch depth that walk-behind rental aerators achieve. This depth difference is the distinction between superficial treatment and genuine transformation. At 3-4 inches, we penetrate through the thatch layer, through the compacted surface layer, and into the clay subsoil where the deepest compaction exists and where roots need to grow for drought resistance. Shallow 1-2 inch plugs barely reach below the thatch and provide minimal benefit. The investment in professional service delivers double the penetration depth which translates directly to superior long-term results.
After aeration, thousands of soil plugs 3-4 inches long lie on your lawn surface. These plugs serve important beneficial functions and should be left on the lawn, not removed. The plugs are loaded with beneficial soil microorganisms that help break down thatch layers when chopped by mowing. They return soil to the lawn surface, improving topsoil quality. They break down naturally in 2-4 weeks from mowing action and rainfall. Removing plugs wastes these benefits and creates unnecessary work. Simply continue normal mowing—the mower chops plugs which disappear quickly.

No, we have a minimum charge that covers up to 5,000 sq ft. Here's why we don't do small patches:
NO! Do not skip fertilizer. The fertilizer is very beneficial for new seed. Here's what happens:
We use a premium blend of 3 Turf Type Tall Fescue cultivars specifically selected for the Eastern Nebraska region. This seed blend includes varieties with excellent NTEP (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program) testing results, meaning they've proven superior performance in:
We apply 5 lbs per 1,000 sq ft as a standard rate. In very thin or completely bare areas, we apply even higher rates. This is a thick application designed to create a dense, lush lawn.
No, if you're on our 6-step fertilizer program, your soil will have plenty of nutrients for the seed. Adding starter fertilizer would create over-fertilization, which can actually harm new seedlings. Our program provides everything your seed needs to thrive.
This is THE critical factor for success. Follow this schedule exactly:
Critical: This is a guide. The soil surface MUST stay damp for seed to survive. New grass has no deep roots to access lower soil moisture—think of it like a newborn baby that needs frequent care.
We will NOT aerate or aerate and seed if sprinklers are not marked. We don't want the liability of damaged sprinklers. You must:
Minimal aftercare needed:
For aeration only: Lawn will look slightly messy for 1-2 weeks due to soil plugs on surface, but no damage. Plugs break down quickly.
For aeration & seeding: Very thin or bare areas may be completely torn up by the double-pass aeration—this is normal and beneficial. It creates maximum soil disruption for seed-to-soil contact. The lawn will look rough for 2-3 weeks, then new grass fills in beautifully.
