Bennington’s growing community features many new and established landscapes that are vulnerable to Japanese Beetles and Bagworms. Our professional service protects both shade trees and evergreens with two sprays in June and July. Beetles emerge in early June to attack Lindens and Roses, while Bagworms hatch on Junipers and Spruce. This dual-purpose service is highly efficient because both pests are active at the same time and respond to the same treatment. This ensures your landscape is protected during the peak summer months when these insects are most destructive and capable of causing permanent damage to your yard. What we do:
We use professional high-reach spray equipment capable of reaching 60 feet into tree canopies for complete coverage. The first application in June stops infestations before they become severe by targeting young pests. The second spray in July maintains protection during peak activity as the first treatment wears off after 3-4 weeks. The medicine kills pests on contact and when they eat treated leaves or needles. This two-step process provides continuous protection for 6-8 weeks. We only apply sprays on calm days to ensure the insecticide stays on your trees and is effective without drifting.
Bennington residents should realize that beetles will fly in from surrounding properties or agricultural fields regardless of local lawn care. You should never use Japanese Beetle traps, as university research proves they attract more beetles to your yard than they capture. Our foliar sprays kill pests on your property without drawing in more from the neighborhood. We recommend combining this pest prevention with deep root fertilization. Proper nutrition helps trees recover from damage, maintain their vigor, and resist stress throughout the growing season, ensuring your property stays beautiful.

Bagworms are a greater threat than Japanese Beetles because the damage they cause to evergreens is permanent and irreversible. Once a branch loses its needles, it stays bare forever and will never recover. Severe infestations can kill entire young trees in a single season or permanently ruin mature specimens. Deciduous trees regrow their leaves every spring, making beetle damage temporary. Each bag contains 500-1,000 eggs, so missing even a single bag ensures next year’s infestation will be exponentially worse. Professional spray treatment is the only way to avoid these lasting and irreversible landscape losses.

Japanese Beetles can fly up to 5 miles per day. Even if grub control prevents beetles from emerging from YOUR lawn, beetles are still flying in from:
Grub control protects your lawn from grub damage but cannot prevent adult beetles from flying onto your property. That's why foliar (tree) spray is necessary—you must kill the beetles ON your trees to prevent damage.
Yes, it is almost certain. If you have them attacking your landscape one year, they will return every year. However, the severity varies year to year based primarily on weather conditions:
The beetles will keep coming back because they're constantly being produced in untreated areas within flying distance. Annual preventative treatment is the only way to protect vulnerable trees.
June and July are the ONLY effective treatment window. Here's why:
Our 2-application program (one in June, one in July) provides optimal protection during the vulnerable window.
Results depend on the pest and infestation level:
Hand-picking is an option for VERY small infestations (5-10 bags on accessible branches). However:
For any significant infestation or trees over 15 feet tall, professional spray treatment is the only practical solution.
We take precautions to minimize impact on beneficial insects:
Absolutely! Many customers choose selective treatment based on:
During the on-site estimate, we'll help you identify which trees are most vulnerable and prioritize treatment based on your budget and concerns.
