Crete, located just 25 miles southwest of Lincoln, is a close-knit community known for Doane University and its charming small-town atmosphere. Yard Boss brings professional deep-root fertilization to Crete trees, shrubs, and landscape plants. Most homeowners focus on lawn fertilization but overlook their trees and landscape plants, even though these plants face similar soil challenges with an added disadvantage. Tree and shrub roots grow eight to twelve inches deep or more, far below where surface nutrients are available. Our specialized liquid injection system delivers complete nutrition directly to the deep root zone where your plants actively feed, promoting healthier growth and long-term vitality.
Crete homeowners have significant investments in their landscape plants and mature trees. Annual deep-root fertilization protects these assets by providing the nutrition plants need to thrive rather than just survive. Benefits include improved leaf color and density, stronger development of roots and branches, better resistance to disease and pests, and enhanced stress tolerance during drought or extreme weather. Even healthy-looking plants benefit from proper feeding, maintaining vigor and preventing nutrient deficiency before visible symptoms appear. Our custom on-site estimates assess your specific trees, shrubs, and landscape plants to create the right treatment plan. This service pairs perfectly with our landscape weed control program for complete bed maintenance.
Our deep-root fertilization uses professional liquid injection rather than surface applications or fertilizer spikes. We inject liquid fertilizer eight to twelve inches below the soil surface using high-pressure equipment that creates multiple application points around each plant’s drip line. This method ensures even nutrient distribution throughout the entire root zone, unlike spikes that only feed small concentrated areas and can cause root burn. Our liquid formulation includes all essential nutrients—nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron, calcium, and magnesium—in immediately available form. The injection process also aerates compacted soil, creating better conditions for root growth and water absorption.

We offer tree and landscape fertilization from March through November whenever your plants are actively growing and taking up moisture. Spring applications are excellent for supporting vigorous leaf development during peak nutrient demand. Summer treatments maintain healthy growth when soil moisture is adequate. Fall fertilization helps plants store nutrients for winter while supporting continued root growth. Crete clients receive notification via text or email the day before their scheduled service. We cannot perform applications when the ground is frozen, as soil penetration becomes impossible. Weather conditions may occasionally require rescheduling to ensure optimal plant uptake.

Fertilization supports healthy, vigorous growth but won't make trees grow unnaturally fast. What you'll see is:
The goal is healthy, sustainable growth—not forced rapid growth that can weaken plants.
We recommend annual fertilization for most trees and landscape plants. Here's why:
During your site estimate, we'll assess your specific plants and recommend the optimal fertilization schedule.
Yes! While lawn fertilizer provides some surface nutrients, it doesn't reach the deep root zone where trees feed. Our deep-root injection delivers nutrients 8-12 inches deep, exactly where tree roots can access them. Trees in lawns still benefit significantly from dedicated tree fertilization.
Even healthy-looking trees benefit from fertilization. Just like a healthy person still needs good nutrition, healthy trees maintain their vigor with proper feeding. Benefits include:
Our liquid fertilizer is applied below ground level through injection. Once applied, it's immediately absorbed into the root zone. No need to wait to be in the lawn after the application.
Fertilization can help stressed or declining trees recover by providing the nutrients they need to strengthen their defenses. However, it's not a cure for disease or severe damage. During the site assessment, we'll evaluate the tree's condition and provide honest recommendations. Some trees may need additional treatments (such as disease management or pest control) or may be too far gone to save.
Yes. We will concentrate the root injections on the edge of the rootball and just outside of the root ball to promote root spread.
