August 15 – September 30
Best For:
Thin lawns, bare patches, outdated grass varieties, anyone committed to achieving the best possible lawn
Success with aeration and overseeding depends entirely on following the prescribed watering schedule. For weeks 1-4, you must water 2-3 times daily to keep the soil surface constantly damp—new seed has no deep roots and will die if the surface dries out. Weeks 5-6 require once-daily watering as grass establishes. Then resume normal 3-times-weekly watering through November. Skipping watering or going 2-3 days without water during the first month will dramatically reduce results and in most cases cause seed death. This isn’t a recommendation—it’s an absolute requirement for success.
Nebraska's Most Trusted Lawn Care Service
Crete’s community of well-maintained homes deserves lawns that thrive in Nebraska’s clay-heavy soil and challenging climate. Soil compaction is an invisible problem that gradually undermines lawn health, creating shallow root systems vulnerable to drought and stress. Our professional aeration services address this fundamental issue with equipment and expertise that deliver lasting results.

The equipment matters enormously in aeration effectiveness. Walk-behind rental aerators that homeowners use pull 1-2 inch plugs at best, barely scratching the surface of compacted clay soil. Our professional stand-on aerators pull 3-4 inch deep plugs that penetrate into the compacted layer where roots actually grow. This depth difference is what separates surface-level treatment from genuine compaction relief that transforms lawn performance. Roots naturally follow aeration holes downward, establishing deeper root systems that access moisture and nutrients unavailable to shallow roots.
We perform aeration and overseeding from August 15th through September 30th because this timing window provides 85-95% success rates compared to only 20-40% for spring seeding. Fall provides ideal soil temperatures for germination, minimal weed competition, time for establishment before winter, and avoidance of summer heat stress that kills spring-seeded grass. We specifically do not offer spring seeding because we won’t take your money for a service with minimal success probability.

No, we have a minimum charge that covers up to 5,000 sq ft. Here's why we don't do small patches:
NO! Do not skip fertilizer. The fertilizer is very beneficial for new seed. Here's what happens:
We use a premium blend of 3 Turf Type Tall Fescue cultivars specifically selected for the Eastern Nebraska region. This seed blend includes varieties with excellent NTEP (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program) testing results, meaning they've proven superior performance in:
We apply 5 lbs per 1,000 sq ft as a standard rate. In very thin or completely bare areas, we apply even higher rates. This is a thick application designed to create a dense, lush lawn.
No, if you're on our 6-step fertilizer program, your soil will have plenty of nutrients for the seed. Adding starter fertilizer would create over-fertilization, which can actually harm new seedlings. Our program provides everything your seed needs to thrive.
This is THE critical factor for success. Follow this schedule exactly:
Critical: This is a guide. The soil surface MUST stay damp for seed to survive. New grass has no deep roots to access lower soil moisture—think of it like a newborn baby that needs frequent care.
We will NOT aerate or aerate and seed if sprinklers are not marked. We don't want the liability of damaged sprinklers. You must:
Minimal aftercare needed:
For aeration only: Lawn will look slightly messy for 1-2 weeks due to soil plugs on surface, but no damage. Plugs break down quickly.
For aeration & seeding: Very thin or bare areas may be completely torn up by the double-pass aeration—this is normal and beneficial. It creates maximum soil disruption for seed-to-soil contact. The lawn will look rough for 2-3 weeks, then new grass fills in beautifully.
