Serving Elkhorn's Expanding Community
Whether you live in a new development or an established part of Elkhorn, your lawn faces the same summer threats from fungal diseases. Our program runs from May through September with five monthly applications designed for Nebraska’s hot and humid summer months. Elkhorn's weather frequently creates perfect conditions for brown patch and dollar spot to grow. When overnight temperatures stay above 65°F and the heat and humidity combined exceed 140, fungus becomes inevitable without professional protection. This comprehensive program is the best way to ensure your yard stays green and healthy during the most challenging parts of the growing season when environmental conditions are perfect for disease outbreaks. Common lawn diseases we treat:
Brown Patches
Dollar Spots
Powdery Mildew
Fairy Rings
Pythium Blight
Red Thread
Rust
Elkhorn Homeowner Responsibilities
Elkhorn homeowners play a vital role in disease prevention by following proper irrigation and mowing habits. You should water only in the early morning between 4 AM and 8 AM and never at night. Morning dew keeps grass wet for hours, and evening watering extends that wetness to 12 hours, giving spores plenty of time to infect the grass. It is also important to maintain a mowing height of 3.5 to 4 inches. Taller grass develops stronger roots and handles heat stress much better. Since most Elkhorn lawns are Kentucky Bluegrass, they are very susceptible to brown patch and typically need annual fungicide treatment to stay healthy.
Dual-Action Protection System
Our fungicide applications combine two different types of products to provide complete lawn protection. The curative medicine kills existing fungus on the grass blades immediately to stop the disease from spreading. However, curative products alone are not enough because new fungus can grow within days during humid weather. This is why the preventative part is critical; it is absorbed through the roots and protects the plant from the inside out. Once inside the grass tissue, it prevents new infections for approximately 30 days. This dual-action system addresses both the problems you can see and the ones that haven't started yet, ensuring your lawn stays safe all season.

Resistance Management Through Chemistry Rotation

Fungicide resistance develops faster than any other lawn care problem, which makes rotating our chemical products absolutely critical. We alternate between two distinct formulas throughout the season: Mix #1 for May, July, and September, and Mix #2 for June and August. Each mix uses different active ingredients to prevent fungal pathogens from adapting and becoming resistant to the medicine. Using the same products repeatedly would eventually make them ineffective, leaving your lawn vulnerable even if we spray regularly. We schedule applications at a minimum of 20-day intervals to maintain steady coverage. This professional approach requires careful tracking but is the only way to ensure long-term effectiveness against aggressive diseases.
